Earlier this week, BP has already had to fix up its initial estimate of a thousand barrels a day as a result of research conducted by small NGOs Sky-Truth, which quantifies the magnitude of discharges from satellite imagery.

The NGO, which has already corrected the industry estimates in previous releases, using a calculation method of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of USA. From the images captured in recent days, Sky-Truth announced Saturday a new estimate of the magnitude of the spill, said yesterday the Los Angeles Times.

Instead of the 5,000 barrels per day so far recognized by BP, SkyTruth estimates that are being poured five times more: 25,000. And the total volume of the spill so far has already reached 11.1 million gallons (more than 40 million liters), making it the largest and disposal of United States history.
